THE ECONOMIC EFFICIENCY OF USING ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE AND BIG DATA TECHNOLOGIES IN THE GREEN ECONOMY
Abstract
This article assesses the economic efficiency of integrating artificial intelligence (AI) and Big Data technologies into green-economy activities. Using a two-stage approach, the technical efficiency of 60 enterprises operating in energy, agriculture, manufacturing and waste management was first estimated through Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA), after which the determinants of efficiency were examined with a Tobit regression model. The results show that enterprises adopting AI and Big Data reach an average efficiency score of 0.86 compared with 0.71 for non-adopters, while the regression confirms that AI adoption and Big Data intensity exert positive and statistically significant effects on green economic efficiency. The adoption of these technologies was associated with an average operating-cost reduction of about 18%, an energy-consumption reduction of roughly 21%, and a fall in greenhouse-gas emissions of about 23%, with a mean investment payback period of 2.8 years. The article proposes a step-by-step mechanism for evaluating the economic efficiency of digital-green integration.
