A CONTRASTIVE STUDY OF ENGLISH AND JAPANESE GRAMMAR: STRUCTURAL, MORPHOSYNTACTIC AND PRAGMATIC PERSPECTIVES
Abstract
This study investigates the major grammatical differences between English and Japanese from a structural, morphosyntactic and pragmatic perspective. Through a contrastive analysis of word-order, clause structure, verb morphology, article and determiner systems, and topic-prominent versus subject-prominent organisation, the research identifies salient divergences and some points of convergence.
