GRADUONOMY OF SPEECH: COMMON MISTAKES IN ENGLISH STRESS AND INTONATION FOR LANGUAGE LEARNERS
Abstract
Graduonomy, the study of vocal gradation in speech, is a little-known but essential concept in mastering natural English pronunciation. This paper explores how stress, pitch, and intonation affect fluency, clarity, and emotional expression. Even minor mistakes in vocal modulation can make speech sound robotic, confusing, or unintentionally rude. Although often overlooked, understanding graduonomy can dramatically improve communication and confidence in English learners.
