Abstract

The rapid escalation of cyber threats has made it essential to continuously advance antivirus technologies as a core component of information security. This paper applies historical and comparative analysis methods combined with a review of academic publications and reports issued by software vendors. The results highlight the principal stages in the evolution of antivirus solutions: moving from signature-oriented techniques toward heuristic, behaviour-based, and intelligent models underpinned by machine learning — a transition that mirrors the shift from reactive to proactive defence. It is argued that the future progress of antivirus systems will be shaped by the integration of artificial intelligence, cloud computing, and IoT protection mechanisms in the face of mounting digital risk.
