POLITENESS STRATEGIES AND MAXIMS REFLECTED IN SACRED TEXTS
Abstract
This article examines the linguo-pragmatic realization of politeness strategies and Grice’s maxims in sacred texts. Drawing upon the theories of Brown & Levinson, Leech, and Grice, the paper analyzes communication styles in religious discourse with special attention to their manifestation in translations. The study further investigates how politeness principles are applied across typologically diverse languages in sacred texts, shedding light on their cultural specificity and communicative effectiveness in an interreligious and intercultural context.
